Reversible Pinafore Size 000 Tutorial

Pinafore Dress Tutorial (c) Dominique Maurice

You will need:

1/2 metre of main fabric
1/2 metre of lining fabric (or another main fabric for a reversible dress)
4 buttons (or 8 if you are making a reversible dress)
Matching threads
** Cut 4 pockets for a one sided dress or 8 for a reversible dress **

1. Gather supplies (You may purchase pattern from my Etsy site www.etsy.com/shop/DesignDominique

2. Cut out pattern pieces and join together using tape

3. Cut out fabric.  Cut 2 using the main fabric and 2 using the lining fabric.

4. Sew pockets together.  Turn inside out and sew across the top, then iron both pockets.

5. Sew pockets onto the main piece and onto one lining piece, using placement as shown on pattern.

6. Sew neck and arm holes together (if you are making a reversible dress, make sure that pieces that you have sown pockets on face each other).  Clip and press.

7.  Open dress out and sew seams together.

8.  Your 2 pieces should like this (photo below).  You should now zig zag, overlock or serge all seams.

9. Sew the shoulders inwards and either over stich by hand or use a straight machine stich.  Sew button holes and add buttons.  If you are making a reversible dress, sew buttons on both sides.

10.  You can either hem the pieces separately or together.  I like to sew them together, it's easier for ironing and it looks cute.

Note:
  • You can add a ruffle of lace between the 2 layers of fabric at the hem.
  • Add embellishments to the pockets.
  • If you sew bias binding around the neck and arms, you won't need lining.
  • 2 fat quarters would easily make this little dress.
